Dynamics in the dynamic walk of a quadruped robot

چکیده
Walk can be classi ed as \static walk" and \dynamic walk". It is said that dynamic walk is superior in both speed and energy consumption. This paper describes how a quadruped robot should walk dynamically to realize these advantages. Such consideration is lacking in past research. In this paper, three criteria are introduced to evaluate the walk { `stability', `maximum speed' and `energy consumption'. The relations between these three criteria and the parameters (gait, speed, period, stride, length of the leg, joint angles, etc.) are formulated accordingly to the dynamics. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The shorter a period is, the more stably the quadruped can walk. (2) It is desirable to walk with a longer period and wider stride in order to increase the maximum speed. (3) There is a period which maximizes the speed. (4) There is a period which minimizes the energy consumption for a given speed. (5) Trot gait is desirable when the priority is placed on energy consumption. Pace gait is recommended when the priority is place on maximum speed. From experiments using the quadruped robot Collie-2, the validity and usefulness of these relations are veri ed.

Dynamics modeling and stable gait planning of a quadruped robot in walking over uneven terrains
Quadruped robots have unique capabilities for motion over uneven natural environments. This article presents a stable gait for a quadruped robot in such motions and discusses the inverse-dynamics control scheme to follow the planned gait. First, an explicit dynamics model will be developed using a novel constraint elimination method for an 18-DOF quadruped robot. Thereafter, an inverse-dynamics...
متن کاملA stability-based mechanism for hysteresis in the walk-trot transition in quadruped locomotion.
Quadrupeds vary their gaits in accordance with their locomotion speed. Such gait transitions exhibit hysteresis. However, the underlying mechanism for this hysteresis remains largely unclear. It has been suggested that gaits correspond to attractors in their dynamics and that gait transitions are non-equilibrium phase transitions that are accompanied by a loss in stability. In the present study...
متن کاملDynamics, Stability Analysis and Control of a Mammal-Like Octopod Robot Driven by Different Central Pattern Generators
In this paper, we studied numerically both kinematic and dynamic models of a biologically inspired mammal-like octopod robot walking with a tetrapod gait. Three different nonlinear oscillators were used to drive the robot’s legs working as central pattern generators. In addition, also a new, relatively simple and efficient model was proposed and investigated. The introduced model of the gait ge...
متن کاملIntegrator Backstepping Control of a 5 DoF Robot Manipulator with Cascaded Dynamics
In this paper, dynamic equations of motion of a 5 DoF robot manipulator including mechanical arms with revolute joints and their electrical actuators are considered. The application of integrator backstepping technique for trajectory tracking in presence of parameters of uncertainty and disturbance is studied. The advantage of this control technique is that it imposes the desired properties of ...
متن کاملOn Passive Quadrupedal Bounding with Flexible Linear Torso
This paper studies the effect of flexible linear torso on the dynamics of passive quadruped bounding. A reduced-order passive and conservative model with linear flexible torso and springy legs is introduced. The model features extensive spine deformation during high-speed bounding, resembling those observed in a cheetah. Fixed points corresponding to cyclic bounding motions are found and calcul...
